Public Wi-Fi Security
Public Wi-Fi hotspots are generally considers unsafe and as a rule you should never use it to browse sensitive sites especially where you conduct financial transactions.
If you must and have no other choice then here are a few tips to keep you safe:
- Be careful of Wi-Fi hotspots with similar names, always ask to make sure it is the right one.
- Make sure the connection requires user authentication with encryption
- Use an encrypted Virtual Private Network service (VPN) when accessing personal information.
- Adjust your mobile device so that it doesn’t automatically connect to nearby Wi-Fi hotspots
- Make sure all websites visited have https:// before the address. This means your information will be encrypted
