HOW TO PREVENT ONLINE HOLIDAY FLIGHT BOOKING FRAUD

  1. Always use a secure website. Look out for a padlock on the left and the URL must start with https://
  2. Make sure that the travel company is legitimate and they belong to a well known trade body like ABTA . If in doubt ask them for proof
  3. Make sure the spelling of the website is correct and not misspelled by one letter in order to deceive you: ie. “holiday.com” and not “holidays.com”
  4. Always go to the homepage of a trusted travel site and navigate to other pages from there.
  5. Be careful of “fake” sites that will keep redirecting you back to a particular page or not allowing you to navigate away from the page
  6. Always go to a payment page that is on the trusted site. Never leave the trusted site to go and pay money on another site
  7. Always pay on trusted sites and acceptable methods. Never send money via money transfer agents or services.
  8. If you can then pay by credit card or paypal as these offer you better protection over personal bank transfer payment method
  9. Never reply to unsolicited emails from unknown sources offering out of this world travel deals that are too good to be true
  10.  Always keep every bit of communication between you and the booking site
