HOW TO PREVENT ONLINE HOLIDAY FLIGHT BOOKING FRAUD
- Always use a secure website. Look out for a padlock on the left and the URL must start with https://
- Make sure that the travel company is legitimate and they belong to a well known trade body like ABTA . If in doubt ask them for proof
- Make sure the spelling of the website is correct and not misspelled by one letter in order to deceive you: ie. “holiday.com” and not “holidays.com”
- Always go to the homepage of a trusted travel site and navigate to other pages from there.
- Be careful of “fake” sites that will keep redirecting you back to a particular page or not allowing you to navigate away from the page
- Always go to a payment page that is on the trusted site. Never leave the trusted site to go and pay money on another site
- Always pay on trusted sites and acceptable methods. Never send money via money transfer agents or services.
- If you can then pay by credit card or paypal as these offer you better protection over personal bank transfer payment method
- Never reply to unsolicited emails from unknown sources offering out of this world travel deals that are too good to be true
- Always keep every bit of communication between you and the booking site
